Phils Place Madson on DL

28 Jun

This isn’ good news.

The Phillies have placed right hander Ryan Madson on the 15-day disabled list with a right hand contusion. Madson’s stint on the disabled list is back dated to June 19th, so he could be activated by this time next week.

The Phillies knew that Madson wouldn’t be able to pitch this series, and that he probably wouldn’t pitch later this week when the Phillies face Toronto, so they decided to place him on the DL so they could bring up some bullpen help in the way of Andrew Carpenter.

Carpenter is 5-0, with a 1.58 ERA in 24 appearances with Triple A Lehigh Valley. Carpenter has not allowed a run in his last eight appearances.

The Pen looks like this. Stutes, Bastardo, Mathieson, Baez, Herndon, recent call up Juan Perez, and now Carpenter. Plenty of IronPigs in the pen.

Madson has been very solid this season with the Phillies. He’s 3-1 with a 2.03 ERA. Get well quick
