Vic- Phils Best King Felix 5-1

19 Jun

I thought about making a reference to the game of chess in this post’s title, but I didn’t want to come off too dorky.

The Phillies were excited to face Felix Hernandez.  Now that the offense is clicking there seems to be a different kind of mojo in the clubhouse.  Felix pitched very well, but the Phillies held their gorund and found a way.  Their patience at the plate was very noticeable.  Managing three earned runs off of Hernandez is quite a feat.

What I night for Shane Victorino.  Shane went 3-4 with a triple, a bases loaded double, and a two-run homer.  He was just a single short of a cycle, and was on base in all four of his appearances.  Shane snatched the crown from Felix, as he was truly the King of the diamond last night.

The Phillies pitching was just great.  The Young Guns as I like to call them held the Mariners offense to just six hits, and one run.  Michael Stutes, and Antonio Bastardo continue to impress as they both pitched scoreless innings again on Saturday. It’s mighty impressive to see a few guys that weren’t really thought about too much in Spring Training being such big contributors.

Vance Worley pitched  very well, too.  His only blemish came from that bat of Mariners rookie Dustin Ackley who hit his first Major League homer.  Vance went just 5 innings, but kept the Mariners off the score board when they had their ace on the mound, and the Phillies found a way to pull ahead.

Sorry this is so short.  West coast games are killer.

Side Notes –

The Cycle – I find it just a bit humorous when players miss the single when they’re close to hitting for the cycle.  It’s supposed to be the easiest one!  Who care about a stupid statistic though, we won, and that’s awesome.

N.L. East – The East continues to struggle as the Marlins drop another one and the Braves slipped even further back from the Phils.  The good guys are up by six games going into today.
