When Shane Returns…

31 May

The Phillies are gonna have something to think about this week while they await the return of their centerfielder Shane Victornio.

Shane is likely going to come off the disabled list this Friday, and the Phillies are going to need to make a roster move to add Shane.

Michael Martinez could be on the chopping block, but the Phillies like his versatility. Martinez is also a Rule 5 pick and would have to be offered back to the Nationals and clear waivers. My guess is that won’t happen.

Domonic Brown and John Mayberry are other options for the Phillies.  Brown looks to be safe after a strong performance in New York this past weekend going 5-7 with two RBI, and the Phillies look to be commited to giving Domonic more opportunity to shine against some right handed pitching.

Mayberry has struggled a little more.  He’s a great fielder, and is pretty slick on the base pads (4 steals) but has had a tough time at the plate batting just .226 in 105 plate appearances.  I think feel that he’s gonna get to hang around since he can play in multiple positions ( LF, CF, and 1b) and he’s done alright in pinch hitting situations batting .250.  For now I think Mayberry is save as well.

I don’t think that we’re going to shorten up the bullpen, especially after how much we’ve been using their services lately.

Many people have said this, and I have to agree that placing Ross Gload on the disabled list makes the most sense.  Other then his hit in Friday’s win against the Mets Ross has been a non-factor in the Phillies last 10 games (3 for his last 13, with 0 RBI).  Ross has admitted that he could have season ending surgery, but wants to try and play though his injury.  That’s all well and good, and it’s something you like to hear from a player, but sometimes it’s just better to not have them there.

I like Ross Gload but would hate to see Brown or Mayberry go. Sounds like an excellent option to me.

I don’t want to see either of the leave. I’m getting excited watching Brown.
