Phillies Add Another Arm

15 Feb

schlitter.jpgIn a little bit of Minor League news the Phillies have regained the services of righty Brian Schlitter who they traded away in 2008 for Scott Eyre.  Schlitter had been claimed after the end of the 2010 season by the Yankees, but they cut him yesterday.  Schlitter posted a 12.38 ERA in 8 innings over 7 games with the Cubs last season. The stint with the Cubs was his only Major League Action.

To make room for Schlitter the Phillies have designated Andrew Carpenter for assignment.

This is the time of year for “fill-ins” to try and make their mark. An invite to the MLB camp is an extended tryout to get into the team’s mindset. Sure Schlitter probably will be headed to Triple-A, but he can make an impression this Spring that will be remembered during an injury, or if someone bombs there first few starts.
Most of these guys know their fate, but every once in a while destiny tips her cap and gives them a cup of coffee in “The Show”.
