Phillies Sweeeeeep the Braves!

23 Sep

What an exciting three days it has been!  Where do I start?

The Phillies completed the sweep of the Atlanta Braves last night and increased their lead in the N.L. East to 6 games.  It was also the Phillies 10th straight win making them 17-3 in September!

Oh yeah, and that Magic Number is 4!

Roy Oswalt continued his winning ways at Citizens Bank Park.  Roy is still undefeated in Philadelphia.  Roy’s 7 innings of one hit ball lowered his ERA to 2.10 in Citizens Bank Park.  Oswalt’s ball was electric.  I still don’t understand how a little guy like that  gets so much zip and life on his pitches. Roy went 7 innings only surrendering one hit.  He only allowed one walk and struck out eight.  Roy had actually never beaten the Braves before in his career, in fact the Braves were the only Major League team he had never defeated, so this was a pretty good way to do it.

The bullpen came in and pitched two scoreless innings in relief for Oswalt.  Madson and Lidge were great, and for all you Lidge doubters out there I just want to point out that he’s 20 for his last 22.

The Phillies are 44-16 since July 20th and at this rate maybe they will win 100 games.  I said the other day that I didn’t think it was going to happen, but as usual the Phillies like to prove us wrong.  The Phillies are now at 92 wins, which ties for the most wins in baseball with the Yankees, and Twins.

The best quote I heard this week was one that Jayson Werth told Jim Salisbury – “We’re going for the best record in baseball. Make no mistake – everyone in here feels we’re the best team in baseball and we’re going to prove it.”
