Twin Bill a Split Game One

7 Sep

_sept61.jpgGame one gave you a little glimpse of the future with Phillies prospect and rookie Vance Worley on the mound against another hard throwing rookie Adalberto Mendez.  By all accounts Vance did a really nice job spot starting for the big club.

After being pulled after the first inning of the Iron Pigs game on Friday night Vance said that he had a feeling that he was going to be called up.

“I had been hearing my name, but you can’t put any stock in that stuff.”  Vance said that he had been working in the bullpen early in the season but would do what ever he is asked to do to help the team.  On July 24, he pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Phils against the Rockies.

“I like pitching the day games, I get the guys who are still sleepy from last night,” Worley said.  “I don’t spend the whole day thinking about what I’m gonna do.”

Worley had been 10-7 with a 3.36 ERA this season in 27 starts between Reading and Lehigh Valley.

Worley was impressive besides some first inning jitters, but the Phillies offense appeared to have the afternoon off.

A lot of speculation will likely come from this game after Kyle Kendricks less then thrilling performance on Sunday.

Side Notes –

Rotation – Phillies Coach Rich Dubee said that they have not come to a decision about weither the Phillies will be going to a four man rotation.  The Phillies have Thursdays off for the rest of the season, which would make things a little easier on the club.
