Cole Finishes Off First Half Strong

12 Jul

Cole Hamels threw down another masterful 7 2/3 innings of shut-out
baseball.  Hamels has had a very strong first half of the season, much
stronger then his 7-7 record shows.
It was the first time in 18 starts this year that he didn’t give up a run.

I continue to show my support for Cole Hamels.  He gets blasted by the media and overly critical fans for his California attitude and his mound presence, but those are things he’s really worked on.  People need to cut Cole some slack because he’s really been looking strong this season.  If you have a World Series hat or t-shirt, or if you went to that parade, know that you wouldn’t be wearing that thing if it weren’t for Cole Hamels.

Phillies will be going into the All-Star break at 47-40 after capping
off their first four-game sweep against the Reds since 1975.  Even
crazier it was their first set of 1-0 back-to-back shut-outs since
1913!  That’s almost 100 years ago!  If any pair was going to do it, it
was Roy and Cole.

Jose Contreras, J.C. Romero, and Brad Lidge
came in to close the door for Hamels, and Brad picked up his sixth save in the Phils four-game sweep of the Reds.  Lidge finished the game quickly.  It was nice to hear the crowd actually get behind Brad as he struck out Drew Stubbs and got Miguel Cairo to pop out.

The Phillies only run came off the bat of Jimmy Rollins who punched a two out RBI single into right field.

This week I’ll talk highs and lows and we’ll discuss who we thought our All-Stars were.

I like everyone else bitched up a storm when Cole started out slow this year. He has proven himself much like I knew he would. There’s a reason he was our ace in ’08. If he gets traded then I have lost all faith in Amaro and the Phils organization. If anything trade Blanton and some minor leaguer not Brown. He and Roy have been kickin *** even the ancient wonder I mean ageless wonder has been doing well. Busting Moyer’s *** is so easy and fun. Now if only we could kick start the offense we’d be in business! Sweeping a first place team is awesome enough but 3 extra inning games and 2 1-0 wins? Only in Philly.
