Injury updates

12 May

phillie-phanatic1.jpgA few of you have asked me for an injury update on Jimmy and Chooch, so I’ll tell you what I know.

  • Jimmy – It appears he’ll probably stay in Florida and possibly do a rehab assignment down there. He went 3-for-6 with two doubles during an extended spring game
in Bradenton, Fla. Rollins only hit and ran — he did not play in the
field — but the Phillies said he reported no pain. It’s possible that he might come up here next week since the Phillies are set to be home next week.  If he does come up to do finish his rehab here it’ll most likely be with Triple A Lehigh Valley since the Reading Phillies are away next week.  I honestly think he’ll stay in Florida, though.  If things go well, and there are no setbacks then we might see him next weekend for the series with Boston, but not before that.
  • Chooch – Carlos injured his knee while trying to tag out Carlos Gonzalez on the sac-fly during the first inning today.  He didn’t really feel poorly until he was running the bases in the 4th. He’s listed as day-to-day and according to the team they have no plans to call up any more catchers which might prove interesting since Brian Schneider is currently on the 15 day D.L. Paul Hoover is expected to assume all catching duties, but it has been rumored that in the case of a real emergency Jayson Werth has actually played catcher before.  I don’t want it to get to that. The Phillies have the day off tomorrow, so let’s hope that Carlos feels better on Friday.
  • Lidge – The stiffness lingers… Lidge has returned to Philadelphia to be evaluated by Phillies doctors.  It’s possible that Lidge may have an MRI tomorrow to see where he’s at.  This does not look good.
  • Brian Schneider – Brian is on the 15 day D.L. but is traveling with the team.  He’s already performing baseball activities and should likely be able to come off the D.L. when he’s eligible.
  • J.A. Happ – I’ve heard people say no news is good news, but I don’t like to think that with injury.  I’ve only heard that Happ is still doing some throwing and that he doesn’t feel quite right yet.  J.A. had a similar injury to this in 2007 and says that he’s trying to monitor it in the same way since he felt he came out of that with little side effect.
